Arran Aromatics
Our love of a beautifully blended aroma inspired our lifelong pursuit of exquisite fragrances with the power to seduce and captivate the imagination. That’s why crafting the aroma is at the heart of each and every thing that we create. From soap to candles, to body moisturisers and massage oils, they all start with the subtle art of perfumery.
A truly inspirational scent should tantalise with rich layers of top, middle and base notes working in harmony to take your senses to another place. It all starts with an idea. Like our desire to capture the crisp, clean essence of dawn breaking brightly on a windswept beach, the bracing rush of breaking waves, and the heady surprise of something precious found among the pebbles. From this inspiration, our signature Driftwood, now Machrie, fragrance was born.
Designing and giving life to a fragrance is a slow and contemplative process. It’s a delicate artistry of blending aromatic compounds and aroma oils along with other essential oils to make the perfect bouquet. New fragrances need time to mature, to infuse the influences of the passing seasons, and this requires the patience and expertise of a master perfumer’s olfactory talent to judge when it’s just right, when it’s ready to meet the world
Tisserand
Tisserand have been supplying the purest of essential oils to both professionals and enthusiasts since 1974. Our heritage and expertise in blending essential oils ensure we are recognised as leaders in the field of aromatherapy and wellbeing. Sourced from all corners of the globe, all our essential oils are 100% pure organic, wild crafted or ethically harvested, and are used and recommended by professional aromatherapists around the world.
It was Robert Tisserand’s mother who first introduced him to aromatherapy, leading to a passion for the subject that continues to this day.
Robert was already practising spiritual healing at the age of 15, but it was at the age of 17, on a train taking him back to boarding school, that he decided he wanted to share the benefits of essential oils with others, to improve their health and happiness. His vision was to bring essential oil based products into everyone’s home. There was nothing like this available at that time, but it was the 1960’s and the winds of change were blowing!
After years of studying and practising as a massage therapist and healer, Robert started the Aromatic Oil Company in 1974 from his bedroom in a South London house. During the next 11 years, despite financial struggle and discouragement from others, Robert hand-bottled the oils, hand-wrote the label for each bottle and packed the parcels that he would despatch to customers every Saturday morning from his local post office.
Isle of Skye Candles
After finishing a gap year in Canada, founder James starts working for a soap company based in the main village on Skye, Portree. Discovering a flare for mixing scents and having a passion for natural products he sets about starting the Isle of Skye Candle Company to compliment the soaps.
James, with help from family and friends, renovates the bothy based on his uncle’s croft in Braes, and turns it into his candle making workshop (complete with authentic grass roof and wood burning stove). Here James makes the first Skye candles, they are not perfect by any means but a good start.
After a few months of tedious experimenting and lots of research into candle making, James makes the first sale of his candles. It’s a small order to the local soap shop he worked in, but it is the start of a beautiful journey.
